Kinozvočenja: GANGAN ENSEMBLE LJUBLJANA (Filipini in Slovenija)

Jakopičeva Galerija
Slovenska cesta 9
Ljubljana, Slovenia
20H (8pm)

Kinozvočenja v znamenju improvizacije pod taktirko filipinskega filmskega in medijskega umetnika Tengala!

Predzadnji letošnji dogodek iz serije Kinozvočenja obeta drugačno prakso v filipinski odprti improvizacijski maniri
poimenovani Gan Gan. Vabljeni!

Zvok:
Marko Batista (laptop) : http://www.project-data.info/
Tengal (laptop and no-input mixer) : http://tengalgorhythm.blogspot.com/
Tomaž Grom (double bass) : http://www.sploh.si/
OCTEX (rx:tx) (electronika) : http://www.octex.si/

Video: Fsk

Koncept: Tengal (Manila, Filipini)

The Gangan Series is an open-ended system that combines the interplay of sound and moving image (video, etc), and emphasizes the situational potential of live improvisatory performance of video and sound artists, by putting the focus on direct experience, risk-taking and intra-personal interaction within the space and audience in a collective sense. Every Gangan Ensemble performance is unique on its own since each performance is built upon a variety of reconstructed / reconstituted ideas and structures collected from a collaborative effort of the group and the performance in the past. For this performance, we exhausted all the possible combinations of a quartet and came up with 15 sections whose duration are randomly chosen by a computer.

This Thursday, the Gangan Ensemble Ljubljana will be the first performance of this series in Europe.

Biography:
The Gangan Ensemble is loosely composed of improvisers who work on both sound and moving image and was created to explore the intricately different kinds of interaction and ways of harnessing sound/energy/musicianship alongside moving images. The evolving participation involves a variety of video-performance artists to electro-acoustic musicians hailing from the Philippines, Singapore, USA, Germany, Australia, UK, Malaysia, and Indonesia since its incarnation in 2007. The ensemble has performed in various countries in South East Asia, notably in NCCA's Sinemusikalye in Manila, in Choppa 2008 in Singapore, in the Cellsbutton Media Art Festival in Indonesia, and recently with electro-acoustic composer Chris Brown in Manila. Gangan Ensemble Ljubljana will be the first performance in Europe. It was founded by intermedia artist Tengal with video artist Tad Ermitano.

Tengal is a Manila-based interdisciplinary media artist, composer-musician, curator-producer, and filmmaker. His work puts the focus on direct experience, risk-taking and personal interaction between artists and audience, and emphasizes the situational potential of live performance, the interplay of various media – sound and image, in particular – and candid exchange between sub-cultural and academic initiatives.
In 2005, he founded SABAW Media Art Kitchen – a not-for-profit, artist-run umbrella organization and network platform for all kinds of information and communication carried via modern electronic media art focused specially in the region of South East Asia. Since then, SABAW has been producing concerts, workshops, inter-artist dialogues and forums, music albums, festivals for new media art, and experimental music and live cinema performances -- most notably "Sinemusikalye", a 50-feet audio-video installation-street-concert for the National Arts Month of The National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) in the Philippines; "Transmissions Gangan", an audio-video performance for 5 radio channels on an interactive space with California electro-acoustic composer Chris Brown; "Fete dela Wasaque -- festival for outerfringe art", and most recently "ASEUM.09: Asia-Europe New Media Art Symposium" and "EAR2EYE: festival for cutting-edge music and moving image."

S svojimi lokacijami, prostori in uporabnikom prilagojeno tehnološko infrastrukturo spodbuja mobilnost umetnikov, teoretikov in vodstva.

RIP MARYANNE AMACHER (February 25, 1943 – October 22, 2009)

Sad sad news for the sonic world!

Maryanne Amacher was known for her installations, which caused listeners to question the nature of sound and the effects it has on the brain. "
She worked extensively with the physiological (not psychoacoustic) phenomenon called otoacoustic emission, in which the ears themselves act as sound generating devices." [Wikipedia.org]

Below is a video clip from the unreleased 2005 short film called Daytrip Maryanne - a collaboration between Maryanne and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon.

I still listen to your composition TEO! (Sound Characters 2) at the most quiet time at night, lying down, finishing it before sleeping. We shall miss you!

Your Typhoon Survival Kit

Your Typhoon Survival Kit

Being prepared is always one step towards survival. Here are some things that we think is important to have during times like these. Prepare them beforehand and keep them in a safe place at all times. Better yet, keep them with you, or in an area that is easy to reach and won’t get in the way of raging floods, etc.

YOUR TYPHOON SURVIVAL KIT

  1. Clean drinking water. Good enough for a week. Consider having at least 1 gallon per person.
  2. Other drinks. Consider: juices in packs, carbonated drinks, coffee.
  3. Food. Also good enough for a week. Consider:
    • Snacks that are easy to store and carry (biscuits, cookies)
    • Non-perishable canned food (corned beef, tuna, pork and beans, vienna sausage, etc.)
    • Candies to maintain sugar in body and keep acidity at bay
    • Bread that will last for a few days, for carbo load
    • Instant noodles, if you have the means to cook
    • IMPORTANT: food for babies and the elderly if you have some staying with you
  4. Food utensils.
    • Spoons, forks, knives, paper plates, drinking cups
    • Non-electric can opener
    • Cooking stove and fuel, if possible
    • Plastic bags
  5. Medicines. Consider having medicines for the following:
    • Fever and nausea
    • Coughs and colds
    • Hypertension
    • Diabetes
    • Diarrhea
    • Anti-tetanus
    • Anti-leptospirosis
    • Other prescription drugs that you need to take
  6. First Aid kit. Must contain band-aids, gauze, tweezers, alcohol, antibiotic ointment, hydrogen peroxide, bandage scissors, absorbent dressings, antiseptic wipe packets, cold compress, gloves and thermometer.
  7. Sanitation kit. Make sure that you have tissue wipes, toilet paper, sanitary napkins, diapers.
  8. Toiletries. These include toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap.
  9. Blankets, towels, comforters, pillows. You can put them in large garbage bags to keep from getting wet.
  10. Extra clothes and underwear. Put them in plastic bags to avoid from getting wet. If you can, pack something that will last you for a few days.
  11. Jackets, sweaters, socks, caps. And anything else that will keep you warm and dry.
  12. Emergency lights and flashlights
  13. Fresh batteries. Have reserves for batteries of different sizes, especially for radios and flashlights.
  14. Radio. Must be portable, battery operated, has functional AM station.
  15. Mobile phone. Make sure the battery is fully charge, and that you have a spare one, too, in case of emergency. Also consider walkie-talkies.
  16. Cash. Banks and ATMs might not be available so make sure that you have cash with you.
  17. Keys. Have copies of keys to the front door, back door, garage, car keys, etc.
  18. Items for pets. Consider also having a leash, muzzle, cage and food for your pets.
  19. Umbrellas and tents
  20. Water pails and dippers
  21. Floatation devices like life jackets, styrofoams, old tires, etc.
  22. Rope

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS TO PROTECT

Many people have died trying to go back for these things, so it’s important that you are well-prepared already at this point in time. Keep these documents in a water-proof container:

  1. Birth certificates
  2. Insurance records
  3. Medical records
  4. SSS, Pag-ibig and Philhealth records
  5. Identification cards
  6. Passports
  7. Bank account numbers and records
  8. Emergency contact numbers
  9. Contact numbers of family, friends and loved ones

It is important that you have an ID with you wherever you go. Also, a list of people to contact in case something happens to you. If you can, put your emergency contacts on speed dial.

If you have more suggestions, please leave them in the comments section.

These were the last words I ever heard from Nika and Alexis. We both pretty much shut down the computer and left the house for dinner that time. They came home too early while the robbery was taking place. Gunshots were heard around 10 or 11pm.
I arrived around 1 am at their house when I heard the news; and waited until their bodies were taken.
